please note that the bibliographies relating to the subjects listed below are under reconstruction and are currently unavailable

General

This bibliography lists textbooks, surveys, and 'popular' general histories of witchcraft.

Gender

No bibliography of witchcraft would be complete without a section on the gender question.

Magic

Magic here is interpreted broadly to include popular and high, black and white, and cunning magic.

Demonology

As the title suggests, this bibliography focuses on studies of demonology as well as the demonological texts themselves.

Witchcraft and the Arts

A bibliography concerned with the representation of witches in art and fictional literature. It also includes a section on modern representations of the historical witch figure.

Social Sciences

This bibliography is a catch-all for anthropological, sociological and psychological studies of witchcraft. Studies which draw on these ancillary disciplines for questions and methodologies, but which focus on particular geographical areas prior to 1800 will be found in the relevant regional bibliography.
